Discussion 3 (1 PAGE)

In your initial post:

1) Identify what you consider to be a sexual identity-related problem or issue that is of importance to you and to society and culture.

2) Identify and evaluate the key positions and theoretical arguments relating to your issue.

3) Include in your discussion comments on what you have learned about the reasons for differences in sexual orientation (e.g., from biological, cultural, or physiological causes).

4) Ground all positions and conclusions in theory and evidence.

Discussion 4 (1 PAGE)

Cognitive Maltreatment and Neural Development

Chapter 5 of the course textbook discusses the brain development of the child in early life as well as the impact of accidents and maltreatment. The required article by Perry (2009) (ATTACHED) illustrates and defends an approach to child maltreatment based on neurodevelopmental analysis that seeks to understand and treat abuse victims with reference to the areas of the brain affected.

Based on these readings, account for or respond to each of the following in your initial post:

· Analyze the findings of the Perry study, addressing the strengths and shortcomings of the neurodevelopmental approach. Are there limits to this sort of approach, and if so, what alternative approach might add something to a neurobiological analysis?

· Offer a real life experience, alternative study, or recent news report that in some way illustrates or casts light upon Perry’s findings.

[Solved] Ideas Flow Logically

[Solved] Ideas Flow Logically

The bike shop that you outfitted with hardware, software, and operating system back in an earlier assignment has grown. Now the owners need you to use your knowledge of data storage and databases to manage this growth. Prepare a report in which you explain to the owner the options for data storage, database development, and data security and recommend an overall solution for the organization.

In your report, address the following:

  • Explain the differences between in-house data storage and cloud storage.
  • Describe the advantages of each storage method for a business organization.
  • Explain the differences between databases and spreadsheets.
    • Be sure to discuss what makes a database relational.
  • Recommend a solution for data storage and system development.
    • Support your recommendation based on a critical analysis of alternatives. For example, how would a database help to better manage the bike shop’s inventory, payroll, pricing, and expenses over spreadsheets?
  • Describe best practices for database security and data backups.
  • Cite authoritative sources to support assertions.
  • Organize the report so ideas flow logically with smooth transitions.

[Solved] Began Making Stricter Protocols

[Solved] Began Making Stricter Protocols

Based on your own independent research, identify a global event (could be an act of God event or man-made event) in the past that caused a massive disruption to supply chain and logistics in the US (or another part of the world)?

Also Comment on two of your peers on what you learned from their post.

1. After reading the chapter and watching this week’s videos a further understanding of the supply chain and how easily it could be affected. After doing further research to find an event that caused a massive disruption I did much research on the events of September 11th, 2001. Knowing the events that took place on 9/11 we knew of much heartache and loss but on top of that, the supply chain was also greatly affected. With the closing of the United States, airspace grounding of the planes and the closure of the borders immediately followed. Almost every supply chain was affected due to these events.  Within September 11, 2001, terrorist attack, manufacturers began to experience disruptions to the flow of materials into assembly plants. Although pre-9/11 acts of terrorism had led to increased screening and security, supply chain security measures more often focused on reducing cargo theft. The events of 9/11 turned transportation equipment into weapons and underlined the potential for cargo to be used for nefarious purposes. With those events back in 2001 today we are still ensuring proper protocols that have been in effect. Since 9/11, there’s been a lot of attention paid to the points where cargo changes hands: from the origin of manufacturing, to shipper, to marine terminal for loading, to ocean carrier, to marine terminal for offloading, to rail and trucking, to the warehouse and distribution centers. An example of how the 9/11 attacks affected the supply chain was  Ford having to idle several of its assembly lines intermittently as trucks loaded with components were delayed at the Canadian and Mexican borders. Closing borders and limiting airspace and traffic, the supply chain took a huge hit as they began making stricter protocols regarding the supply chain and the screening process involved.

2. One of the easiest global events to reflect on supply chain and logistics is the Covid-19 Pandemic. As something we all lived through are still living through, we all can see and feel the lasting effects it has had on everything. From healthcare to inflation to supply chain, there will always be reminiscences of Covid19.

Because almost every country around the world had gone into a lockdown, there was very little goods going in or out of the country. There was also a surplus of inventory in a lot of the businesses that ended up going under because of the little being sold. One of the supply chain issues was the supply and demand issue that arose with lockdown. For example, the toilet paper shortage that stood out as one of the biggest problems at the beginning of everything. The demand for toilet paper shot up as supply remained the same and it was impossible for supply to meet demand due to money and time constraints.

A personal issue I remember coming into was at work. I work in an Italian restaurant that had a lot of supply issues when opening back up to dine in customers. Certain items had been taken off the menu because it was becoming too difficult for the business to buy it. Some items come from Italy like some of the cheeses and sliced meats.

[Solved] Excel Videos Show Excel

[Solved] Excel Videos Show Excel

Overview:

This assignment creates the basic table that you will be working off of for assignments two and four. You will be taking the raw data in the base data Excel document and combining it in a way that you are able to do some basic analytics on. Good luck and have fun!

Some of the Excel videos show Excel 2013. If you have 2010, the Pivot Table Analysis tab is called Options. Some features shown in the video will not be included in Excel 2010; none of these features will be required for any of the assignments, so your ability to complete these assignments will not be compromised at all.

If you run into trouble with the assignments, please use the Watercooler Tab and ask your classmates. I will be monitoring this board to lend a hand as well. Your grade is not dependent on whether you can figure out something on your own; you are graded on your abilities to use the resources you have (within reason) available to you to execute on what needs to be completed.

Instructions:

Using vlookups, display the item name, area, and period month on the All Items tab. Hint: You will need to use at least two vlookups to link series_id to area code and then to area.

The end product will display Item_code, Item_Name, Area_Code, Area and Period_Name on the all_Items tab next to each row of data. Please ensure that your sheet is free of errors (N/A or ref!) when it is turned in. VLookups can be a challenge for those who are not accustom to them, please give yourself time to troubleshoot or reach out for help.

Requirements:

For this and future excel assignments, repeating the action of the tutorials should be done at a minimum. For full credit, make adjustments to formatting, use of other formulas and other additional manipulations that demonstrate that you are gaining the understanding needed in Excel to be a leader in managing analytics.

Please upload your entire Excel workbook to Blackboard when completed.

[Solved] Resources Financial Accounting Standards

[Solved] Resources Financial Accounting Standards

America Online (AOL) is a leader in the Internet access provider industry.  In 1996, the company changed a controversial accounting method involving the treatment of the cost of advertising and free trials.  The following is an excerpt from a May 15, 2000, CNET News.com article:

America Online will pay a civil penalty of $3.5 million as part of a settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission over the accounting of advertising costs.  According to the SEC, the Internet and media giant improperly reported most of the costs of acquiring new subscribers – such as the expense of sending computer disks to potential customers – as an asset.  As a result, the SEC said AOL posted a profit for six of eight quarters in 1995 and 1996 but would have recorded a loss if the company followed recommended accounting practices.

AOL, backed by its auditor, defended the accounting method of capitalizing these costs arguing that spreading the costs over two years was a justifiable way to match expenses against revenue flows that would emerge later.  In 1996, AOL switched to expensing these costs in the period incurred.

Consider the general treatment of advertising and promotion costs.

  • Why are these costs normally expensed in the period incurred even though they are incurred with the intention of generating future revenues?
  • Why did they expense these costs over a two-year period?
  • Then discuss the possible reasons why AOL chose a different approach followed by a discussion of the possible reasons why the company decided to change its method.  Also include the civil penalty of $3.5 million leveled by the SEC four years after AOL changed its method.

[Solved] Target Corporation 2017 Annual

[Solved] Target Corporation 2017 Annual

Public companies must, by law, publish their financial statements every year. The Additional Student Resources contains “the Target Corporation 2017 Annual Report”.  There, you will find the complete 2017 financial statements and supplementary data of the Target Corporation. For this week’s first Discussion, you will find, analyze, and discuss another public company’s financial statements.

Required:

Select any public company and go to their website. Locate the company’s most recently filed financial statements (i.e. 10K or 10Q) and then look up Note 1 in those statements. This note summarizes the significant accounting policies of the company. Refer to the “Business and Significant Accounting Policies” section of the Annual “10K” and Quarterly “10Q” report. Select two of the accounting principles in the report.

Post at least 200 words answering the following question:

  • Did the company implement any new accounting standards during the year?
  • If so, which ones did it implement? What was the impact of those changes? In other words, how did those new standards affect the company’s bottom line?
  • If not, do you think there are any standards issued during the reporting period that they should have implemented? Why?
