Purpose

This discussion focuses on effective social and urban planning, which was often handled poorly in the 1950s through 1970s. To this day, real estate developers view financial profits as their primary goal, which tends to cause a multitude of social, environmental, and economic problems for the community as a whole. In addition, city governments struggle with the challenges of tax strategies, infrastructure, public education, job opportunities, health services, waste management, crime prevention, etc.. As the future generation of planners, it is up to you to see what has worked an not worked in US History, and to apply those lessons as often as possible.

THE BOOK/ CHAPTERS TO USE ARE:

• Read Chapters 25 through 27 of your textbook, The American Yawp, and take notes

Tasks:

Step 1: Find your persona.  (MY PERSONA IS BELOW)

Then gather as much evidence as you can from the Unit 1 through 4 textbook readings and lectures, gathering as many statistics, events, and examples as you can on urbanization, technology, desegregation, environment, crime, progressivism, and any other topic that would be relevant to creating a community.  

Step 2: Analyze that evidence and see what it is telling you: Looking at the available evidence, what has failed and what has worked in US History in creating communities? Try to look at the question from the standpoint of your person. What would they see as most important in the development of a community and why? 

Step 3: Communicate your findings honestly to yourself and others: Each of you will submit a minimum of three highly detailed posts:

• Your first post will specifically state what has not worked in US History up to 1965. Communicate through ample evidence how and why your person views those past developments as failures

You receive the following email from your office manager about a new initiative that will be implemented by your employer:

Attention Staff,

We need your help! After analyzing the data obtained from our yearly client-satisfaction survey, we determined a need to work towards improving our relationships with clients. The goal of this initiative is to improve the overall satisfaction of our clients and foster an atmosphere of trust and confidence within the organization. As you are aware, the vision of this company is: “To provide quality services to every client through practice, education, and research.”

According to the data collected on the survey, only 74% of our clients felt that they received quality service at our facility. Furthermore, 19% of our clients reported that they felt that the institution lacked professionalism. In order to ensure that we are aligning our practices with our vision, we will implement the following practices as non-negotiables at the facility effective immediately:

1. Satisfaction surveys will be provided for clients to complete upon exiting the facility.
2. Suggestion boxes will be prominently displayed for clients and employees to offer ideas to improve relations.
3. All employees will complete a 2-hour, yearly workshop to foster professionalism in the workplace. Upon completion of the course, each employee will be rewarded a $25.00 Visa gift card.
4. Yearly evaluation criteria will now include a component for professionalism in the workplace.
5. Optional future professional development activities will be available to help employees feel confident in fulfilling the requirements of this initiative moving forward.

We are excited to start this new initiative and improve relations with our clients. We will discuss this in depth at our next staff meeting. Please come prepared with any questions, comments, concerns, and suggestions. We look forward to hearing from you.

Complete your Reply Post

This week you will finish the rough draft of your article on your chosen healthcare topic. Before we can complete the rough draft, we need to finish the article. It is important that we end with a strong conclusion paragraph. After all, it is the last idea your audience reads! You want to be sure to leave them with a strong impression.

Remember, in your conclusion you must do the following, in this order: 

1. Restate your thesis in different words than you used in your introduction paragraph.
2. Summarize your three main points.
3. End with a strong concluding statement (Something so powerful that it leaves the reader with something to think about long after reading the words on the page).

After writing your conclusion, you will submit your draft for review. To do this, format your draft according to the instructions in the template.
