This is practice for work you will do with your organization in the final project.

To begin, reflect on the foundations of healthcare marketing as discussed in the opening chapters of the two course textbooks and review the module resources. Next, for the following types of healthcare organizations (all five), access their websites to become familiar with their mission/vision/value statements:

• University hospital
• Hospital/healthcare system
• Not-for-profit community hospital
• Ambulatory surgery center
• Skilled nursing facility

In a 1- to 2-page paper, address the following critical elements:

• Challenges: Discuss any challenges you encountered finding these organizations’ mission/vision/values statements. Further, discuss any surprising or unexpected things you found.
• Commonality: What do the organization’s’ statements have in common? How do they differ?
• Alignment: Why is it important for a healthcare organization to align its mission, vision, and values to its marketing efforts?

Support your responses by referencing the module resources. Also, feel free to refer to your own research to support your work. Be sure to use this practice as you prepare for Final Project Milestone One.

Developments and the Future of Applied Behavior Analysis

Through the second half of this course, you have had the opportunity to trace the development of applied behavior analysis from the latter part of the twentieth century to the present. This assignment will offer you the opportunity to examine those developments and how applied behavior analysis continues to evolve while remaining rooted in its foundations in science and the philosophy of behaviorism.

Assignment Directions

For this assignment, you will provide a long-answer essay response to each of the questions below. For each question, you are encouraged to use the peer-reviewed resources provided throughout the units to support your responses. Please do not copy and paste the whole question into the document. Rather, use APA format section headings to organize your paper, with separate sections for each question. Use the rubric and the assignment prompts as guides to be sure you address all topics.

Please respond to the following:

• Begin the assignment by reading the “Applied Behavior Analysis in Special Education: Misconceptions and Guidelines for Use” (Trump et al., 2018) (linked below) article, which describes some recent critical perspectives and misconceptions on the use of ABA to treat individuals with autism and other disabilities: Then, use the knowledge that you have gained from this course to make two arguments.
  • In your first argument, explain the usefulness, benefits, and social validity of ABA as an approach to treatment and behavioral development. Be sure to consider the importance of an evidence-based and data-driven approach and the right to effective treatment as described in “The Right to Effective Behavioral Treatment” (Van Houten et al., 1988) (linked below).
  • In your second argument, respond to some of the concerns addressed in this article.
  • What are some possible unwanted effects that may be associated with practice of ABA, particularly in its earliest historical use? What are some ways the authors suggest these concerns can be addressed?
  • Finally, after considering both arguments, present a supported conclusion on the appropriateness of applied behavior analysis as a socially valid treatment approach to improve quality of life, based on your analysis of the article and related issues. Be sure that you are using your readings and integrating citations to support both arguments.
• Name and briefly describe five recent developments in ABA that were reviewed in the course.
  • Explain what additions to the philosophy and practice of ABA have been added by each development.
  • Describe each of Baer et al.’s (1968) seven dimensions of ABA.
  • Choose one recent development that is of most interest to you and be specific about how the development meets the requirement for each of the seven dimensions. Discuss if there are any ways in which the development does not support the dimensions.
• Consider the future of ABA. Based on your readings and analysis, what are some important areas for growth and change?
  • Consider the current state of multiculturalism and diversity in practice. How will growth in these areas help to build relationships to effectively support the goals and practices of applied behavior analysis?
  • Analyze ways in which the goals and philosophical assumptions of ABA will allow for continued development and expansion without sacrificing the scientific foundations of ABA.
  • In your supported opinion, what are some important areas in which ABA should not change?

1. Discuss the differences between establishing and abolishing operations, and, with an example for support, explain why and how you might manipulate these Motivating Operations as part of a planned behavior change. Next discuss the differences between rule governed and contingency shaped behaviors, with one example to support each concept. Finally, define and describe the differences between the following processes: Positive Reinforcement, Negative Reinforcement, Positive Punishment, Negative punishment and extinction. Be sure to identify the expected behavioral outcome for each process and provide one brief example to illustrate each.
2. First, define stimulus and stimulus class and provide an example for each concept. . Next, define the concept of stimulus control and how stimulus control is established, explaining the differences between generalization and discrimination of stimuli.
3. Review Jasmine’s Case Example (link below) and explain how you would use response and stimulus prompt fading to transfer stimulus control to a more relevant stimulus, including the application of differential reinforcement, as part of a maintenance plan for a target behavior.
4. First, discuss the basic concept of Verbal Behavior as an operant paradigm. Next, discuss each of the six elementary verbal operants, identifying them according to their properties of point-to-point correspondence, formal similarity, and appropriate reinforcement according to each operant’s specific function. Be sure to identify which verbal operants do or do not demonstrate the properties of point to point correspondence and formal similarity. Finally, provide a unique example of each verbal operant and how each is applied to the development of verbal behavior.
5. Discuss the concept of Derived Stimulus Relations as it applies to the development of verbal behavior and cognition. Explain the similarities and differences of how derived stimulus relations and verbal behavior contribute to the development of an individual’s verbal behavior and cognition. Finally, identify the three parts of stimulus equivalence, and explain how each part applies to the development of derived stimulus relations in verbal behavior.
