As you should recall from Unit III, Sheena grows three types of plants: desert rose, plumeria, and oleander. She sells her plants in her backyard and has hired your company to create a system for her to use to manage her business.

  • For the desert roses and plumerias, she sells the seedlings for $5.00 each. She sells the small plants for $10.00 each, the medium-sized plants for $12.50 each, and the large-sized plants for $20.00 each.

Whenever Sheena has a sale, she uses a spreadsheet to record the customer’s first and last name, address, phone number, email address, and items sold. If they are a repeat customer, Sheena will give them a 5% discount on their order. Customers pay Sheena in cash or through Venmo.The spreadsheet is getting a bit tedious to keep up with and allows a lot of room for error. Below are Sheena’s requirements for the new system that your company will create for her business.

  • It will be able to generate invoices to print or email.
    • Invoices should include the invoice number, the customer’s name, the customer’s address, the date of the sale, the items sold (including color, quantity, and price), the sale subtotal, whether any discounts were applied to the sale, the total tax per sale, and the subtotal.
  • It will be able to report repeat customers so that Sheena can send them discount coupons and sale alerts.
    • The report should include the customer’s name and address, the discount applied to the sale, and the discount’s expiration date.
  • It will include a daily sales report ordered by highest quantity of items sold.
    • The daily sales report will include all of the transactions from the day. On the report, each transaction should include the item names, item sizes, item colors, quantities sold, item prices, and the total sales amount. The report should also include the total sales amount for all of the sales combined that day.

The significance of the water imagery is simply stating that the sea is representing the great unknown and it’s key because at the end of the story Eveline’s decision to leave is a difficult one due to the unknowns of leaving and “all the seas of the world tumbled about her heart’ which is describing her actual heart and the health issues she faces with palpitations. Just Eveline’s thought of leaving her home of Dublin is causing a rollercoaster of emotions and stress and the obvious heart palpitations. The statement of drowning is not drowning for real but the fact is she feels Frank is pressuring her into leaving, and that’s the thought of drowning. The sea also is a clear representation of freedom which she is also afraid of. 

I think the main reason for Evelin not leaving has to be because of the promise she had made to her mother before her mothers death and that was that her mother asked her to “keep the home together as long as she can”. This decision to not leave is brought about from her mothers promise and even though her father is abusive she proclaims that it is her job as a women to take care of her father. Eveline is very familiar with death and discusses all the people who have died or left her behind. In conclusion Eveline is in fact not in love with Frank, she just seen him as an escape from her current life and therefore decided to not leave with Frank because of the responsibilities she claimed she had and overall her promise to her mother to never get separated.

Schools, peers, and the media can impact a child’s development. In schools, teachers play a role in encouraging academic success and student involvement. The characteristics of the school itself also can influence student involvement. For example, larger schools increase the sense of anonymity in students, and teachers are often hard-pressed to provide individualized instruction.

Peers aid in socialization, often through the act of play. Even young children begin to prefer to play with other children rather than play by themselves or with adults. Children often model their behaviors based on their peers. Peers can reinforce behaviors (which may be desirable or undesirable by caregivers or teachers), encourage socially appropriate behavior and attitudes, establish age-related values, and help children learn how to interact with others.

Although television and electronic media impact a child’s development, keep in mind that they only provide the medium for delivery of the message. The medium itself is neither inherently good nor bad. However, the harmful effects of television content (e.g., violence can increase aggressive behavior in viewers; stereotyped portrayals of ethnic and minority groups can leave viewers with inaccurate beliefs about these groups) are more readily recalled than the beneficial influences of some content (e.g., programs such as Sesame Street teach basic cognitive and pro-social skills to their young viewers).
