Create a slideshow ethnography presentation for your Signature Assignment, due Sunday, Nov. 19th.  Using all three milestone assignments as building blocks for the signature assignment, assemble the following elements in a PowerPoint or Prezi slideshow. 

Graphics/images should be used to make your presentation visually appealing to your audience. 

Include all written work in the notes section of slides or submit a Word document or pdf with your presentation slides.  Do not crowd slides with text.

 

Research Question: How does the online community culture accommodate and empower individuals with disabilities?

The signature assignment must include the following:

Title Slide – Student Name, Course, Date, and Title of Presentation (1 slide)

Group Information (2-4 slides):

  • What is the name of the group?  What is their mission or purpose?  How many members do they have currently?
  • What is the culture of the group?  Write a 1-2 paragraph description of the culture within the online community based on what you have learned in the course.  Use at least three (3) concepts from course topics to describe the group culture.  Define each concept and how it applies to the group specifically.

Research Question (4-6 slides):          

  • State your research question.
  • In 1-2 paragraphs, explain the development of your research question.  What influenced you to ask this question?  How did your question change over time?  Why ask this question?
  • What did you learn from the literature about your research question?  What was helpful in guiding you to answer your research question?
  • What did you find when observing the site?  Describe at least three (3) details related to your research question that you found helpful.

Conclusion (3-5 slides):

  • Were you able to answer your research question?  Write at least 1 – 2 pages explaining why or why not.  If you did not answer your question, what other information is needed?  What would you have liked to have had access to answer the question?
  • Write another research question resulting from your work.  What else would you like to know if you continued studying the online community or online communities?

The final slide(s) will be your reference list in APA format, including all sources used in your project. (1-2 slides)

In Unit 4, you conducted research into your academic program to learn more about what skills you would get from your courses, and how you might leverage what you learned to secure an internship or job in your field of interest. Now you will conduct research to find the current trends in your desired industry and provide a brief summary of your findings. This assignment will be in the form of a professional email to your supervisor, Ms. Smith. 

ScenarioImagine that you work for a company directly related to your major. Your company is preparing for expansion and your boss, Ms. Smith, has been asked to design an orientation program for new employees. As part of this process, Ms. Smith has asked you to do some research into the trends in your organization’s industry that new employees will need to know about and understand.

She has asked you to write a detailed email that identifies the three top emerging technology trends in your industry to incorporate into the new training, along with why they are the top three. If she likes your work on this initial research, she will ask you to take the lead on this portion of the training, allowing you to get leadership experience and name recognition within the organization. 

While you have been with the company for some time, you haven’t had much opportunity to focus on training others. You think you have a sense of the industry but know you need to do more research to be accurate in your analysis. The ability to spot emerging trends in your industry is an important skill, and your boss wants to ensure that new employees are up to speed as quickly as possible.  

Begin by reviewing this resource on conducting research on trends. What movies, TV shows, net series, poems, writings, anime, video games or other forms of entertainment have influenced your life in a positive or negative way? Explain in detail what your choice is (not everyone may know of it) and why it affected you so intensely.

You wake up one morning and find yourself to be completely invisible. Everything you wear or touch is also invisible and lasts for as long as you wish. What would you do with your newfound ability?

Many of us are fond of music that speaks to our particular generation. Write a story that convinces others not in your generation that your music is worth listening to. Choose one or more musicians, rappers or artists and explain why you think they’re so noteworthy. Be persuasive.

Observational Exercise: Grab a notepad or use your phone’s memo function. Go out and look for interesting characters around the campus. Go somewhere busy, where people are moving around, not just sitting. Practice making quick, discreet observations, taking in various hairstyles, clothes, shoes, jewelry, manner of walking, expression, etc. Spend about 20 minutes taking notes. You will be using these observations in a future so make it good!
