Profiles

Rita:

  • Rita has been leading the project from day one. She is a senior member of the marketing team and has been with the company for 15 years.
  • Rita is responsible for managing multiple departments made up of diverse team members with varied backgrounds and skill sets.
  • It is ultimately Rita’s responsibility to decide the direction of the project and to make sure it is finished on time and on budget.
  • Although Rita values the varied opinions, experience, and perspectives of all of her team members, she tends to rely heavily on the expertise and opinion of Nimish, because they have worked together in the past, so she trusts him and gives him a lot of responsibilities.
  • Rita’s constant deference to Nimish makes some of the other team members feel that she favors him.
  • Rita tries to be mindful of not showing favoritism by consulting the whole team before moving forward with the conclusions she and Nimish come up with.

Nimish:

  • Nimish works on the project remotely from India. He wears multiple hats, working with the marketing team by providing technical support.
  • Nimish has worked for Spruce Paper Company for 5 years. He and Rita worked together at the corporate offices when he lived stateside.
  • Many team members have complained to Rita that they have trouble understanding Nimish on conference calls because of his accent, and they are frustrated that he is based in India and never makes any in-person appearances.
  • Rita defends Nimish’s contributions and uses the opportunity as a teachable moment to explain the importance of diversity in the workplace to her team.
  • Nimish tries to address their concerns by reaching out to every member of the team to figure out how to best accommodate their various tech needs and comfort levels with preferred methods of communication.
  • His effort makes it possible for each team member to communicate with him and with each other regardless of location which gives everyone an equal chance to weigh in.

Dave:

  • Dave is a graduate student in marketing at a local university and has been working on this project as an unpaid intern. He hopes the internship will lead to a full-time job offer.
  • Dave’s role is to assist with market research, preparing proposals and presentations, and providing administrative support for the marketing department.
  • Dave pitched an idea to Rita and her bosses, which was well received, and the company implemented it.
  • Dave made certain that the whole team received credit for their contributions to his presentation.

Ernesto:

  • Ernesto is a retired expert in the greeting-card industry and has been called in for this project to serve as a consultant. He’s worked for a number of companies over the span of his career, but never for the Spruce Paper Company.
  • Ernesto works closely with Rita and assists in providing direction on the project. He has also taken an interest in mentoring Dave by giving him goals and deadlines to meet on the project.
  • Ernesto has been retired for 6 years and is in need of a refresher on current trends.
  • Younger team members find it frustrating to work with Ernesto because of this. Rita is open to hearing their grievances but explains that Ernesto offers other skills and knowledge that are invaluable to the project.
  • Ernesto’s key contributions have been summarizing each department’s obstacles and avoiding tensions in meetings by mitigating differences of opinion.

[Solved] Encountered Many Different Supervision

[Solved] Encountered Many Different Supervision

In response to your peers, identify the leadership skills your classmates discuss.

1#  One supervisor that stood out to me was when I was working at a hotel as a maid. She knew who she had to be on top of to get their floors completed and the ones she could leave to their floors and would have everything completed for the day on time and to the hotel standard. She was straight to the point and talked to everyone with respect. I think that to have employees that want to show up to work and that will have value in their work, you have to show them respect. In my opinion, respect is a big deal in my opinion and I believe many supervisors demand respect but lack the ability to show the people who work under them the same respect they want. Do you think that respect plays a significant part in the workforce?

2#

Thinking back to my seventeen years of service in the Army, I have encountered many different supervision styles and have had dozens of supervisors. One supervisor stood out from the rest, not only for the lessons he taught me but the way the lessons were taught. Jason was two military grades above me, accomplished and proficient in his craft. His supervision style was supportive and formative supervision. Supportive supervisors create an encouraging and empathetic environment, offering emotional support, listening to the supervisee’s concerns, and providing assistance when needed. Constant support and encouragement gave me confidence in my abilities as a cannon crew member. Self-assurance enabled me to take on more challenging tasks and responsibilities, contributing to my professional growth as a soldier. Jason also provided formative supervision; formative supervision aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of the supervisee. It includes ongoing feedback, training, and development opportunities to promote growth as a professional.

Constructive feedback was the most helpful aspect Jason provided with his supervision style. Constructive feedback gave me the guidance and resources needed to develop my skills and knowledge to be a proficient cannon crew member. What aspects stood out to you? The way the constructive feedback or lesson was reciprocated, Jason had very calm and controlled way of conveying his message. A calm demeanor encourages active participation and a willingness to explore new ideas between trainee and supervisor. My experience with Jason as supervisor and trainee has impacted me significantly; formative and supportive supervision is the method that trains, enhances, and promotes growth in trainees with great effectiveness. I will take the lessons learned for Jason and apply them every opportunity.

[Solved] Identify One Career Assessment

[Solved] Identify One Career Assessment

Here, I want you to identify one career assessment that would be appropriate for this client. Discuss why you chose this assessment, how it is aligned with his issue(s), and what theory it is related to. You can take a look at the Career Assessment Resources for some ideas on assessments to use.

Your client, Jim, is an 18-year-old male living with his parents. You have been working with him for the past year on his severe anxiety related to his chaotic home life. His parents do not have stable jobs and have battled addiction on and off through the years. They are currently sober but not working and ready to lose their home. Jim just graduated from high school and is eligible for a variety of grants and scholarships that would pay for his college – tuition and housing. Jim wants to go to college, but is trying to decide between a culinary arts program at one community college nearby. If he chooses this program, he can stay with his parents. He has already registered and signed up for classes in this program. The other option is a 4-year university an hour away. He would need to live in the dorms if he chooses this option. He is very undecided about what he wants to do and is considering a variety of careers – criminal justice, business, and psychology. He was a good student in high school.

Jim’s anxiety has increased in recent weeks because the school year is to begin in a few weeks and he is unsure what he wants to do. His parents are pressuring him to stay with them and do culinary arts.
