Summarize, in one to two paragraphs, your interview with a nurse leader by stating the topic chosen for your interview (from directions below),  the nurse leader’s response and what you have learned from the interview. Use fictitious names and places for the nurse leader and the healthcare organization. Cite the interview as a “personal communication” (refer to APA 6th ed. citations). Include the nurse leader’s formal professional title, academic credentials, date and times of the interview.

Directions for Nurse Leader interview

Interview an advanced practice nurse in a clinical, administrative, or education role. You do not have to record this interview or submit a transcript of the interview. Choose one or two topics from 1-5 below.

Some suggestions include:

1. The role of the nurse in identifying patient safety or health outcomes.
2. What is the accreditation process of the institution and who is the healthcare organization accredited by?
3. For Magnet Hospitals:  What are the nursing roles and  practices that led to this certification?
4. How is evidence-based practice utilized in the chosen healthcare setting and who makes the recommendations for change?
5. Any other questions generated by the course content may be chosen and expanded upon.

Nurses use evidenced based practice (EBP) to guide their clinical decisions.  Educators also use theory and EBP to create teaching/learning opportunities. you will select theories and models of education to support teaching and learning in one of the DCN Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion Option courses.  You must select a course that has a clinical component.  See the attached document for a list of courses and course descriptions.  Assume that you have classroom and lab/simulation time available on campus, as well as a clinical rotation with opportunities for patient care and/or community-based activities.

Choose two models or theories for each mode of instruction (2 class, 2 lab, and 2 clinical) upon which you could build your learning activities.  Of the six, one must be selected from the following: self-directed, experiential, transformative, and service learning. One must be a nursing theory. You may use theories or models beyond those found in your texts. The scientific literature has several that may be interesting to you.

Choose 6 different theories/models in total.  Provide a brief summary of each and explain your rationale for choosing it, including how it specifically supports your learning goals for the course. You are not creating the specific learning activities, just researching theory to provide direction for future curriculum-building decisions.  Organize your presentation as follows:

• Introduction – Provide a brief description of the course you have chosen, including where it falls in the curriculum, and your overall student learning goals.
• Theories to Support Classroom Instruction
• Theories to Support Lab/Simulation Activities
• Theories to Support Clinical Experiences
• Conclusion

Knowing that change is inevitable, and people resist change, how can leaders overcome this resistance? What would happen if no change at all occurred in health care? Why do nursing staff seem particularly resistant to change?

Your initial posting should be at least 400 words in length and utilize at least one scholarly source other than the textbook. 

You are preparing to work as a nurse in the neurology unit. The preceptor informs you to be prepared to discuss the following topics as they are commonly seen on the unit. In order to prepare, choose one of the following 4 topics below of interest as your initial discussion posting. Use this course’s resources and one evidenced-based article to explore the topic of your choice.

1.  How do you assess a client when the nurse suspects onset of CVA?
2.  Provide discharge information for a client with mild TBI.
3.  Discuss surgical management of brain tumors.
4.  Describe postoperative complications of a craniotomy.
